New Taipei City, Taiwan – The Tamkang Bridge, a landmark infrastructure project designed by renowned German bridge engineering firm Leonhardt, Andrä und Partner in collaboration with the internationally acclaimed Zaha Hadid Architects, is entering the final stages of construction. The project began in 2019, following the team’s victory in the 2015 international design competition, and is scheduled for completion and public opening in the first half of 2026.
Throughout the development of the project, Good Earth CPA has provided cross-border tax advisory services, supporting Leonhardt, Andrä und Partner in navigating Taiwan’s tax and regulatory requirements.
Strategically located at the mouth of the Tamsui River, the Tamkang Bridge will significantly enhance regional connectivity. Once open, it will relieve congestion on the Guandu Bridge, the National Freeway No. 1 Tamsui River Bridge, and the National Freeway No. 3 Bitan Bridge, while accelerating the development of Danhai New Town and surrounding areas.
The design features an asymmetrical, single-pylon cable-stayed structure spanning 920 meters, minimizing its impact on the surrounding environment by preserving sunset views and reducing disturbance to the riverbed. Upon completion, the Tamkang Bridge will be the world’s longest single-pylon cable-stayed bridge.
Key Project Highlights:
· Main Tower Height: 211 meters
· Main Span: 450 meters
· Total Length: 920 meters
· Construction Period: Approximately 68 months
· Total Budget: NT$12.49 billion
On January 2, 2025, CNN recognized the Tamkang Bridge as one of the most significant architectural achievements of 2025, praising its design:
“This bridge expresses Zaha Hadid’s architectural language through a unique aesthetic. Despite being supported by only one pylon, its fluid lines and graceful twist embody the quintessential Zaha Hadid style.”
With its elegant profile and cutting-edge engineering, the Tamkang Bridge is set to become a global icon of bridge architecture and a key driver of growth in northern Taiwan.
