Reminder: Permanent Residents Can Apply Directly for Personal Work Permits in Taiwan
We would like to remind foreign residents in Taiwan that holders of permanent residency (APRC) may apply directly for a personal work permit without the need for an employer to file the application.
This procedure has been in place for several years under Article 51 of the Employment Service Act, and the Ministry of Labor (MOL) provides multiple convenient channels for application. Permanent residents can apply in person, by mail, or online to obtain their work permit quickly and legally.
For those who wish to receive their permit immediately, applications can be submitted in person at the Cross-Border Workforce Affairs Center, Workforce Development Agency (10F., No. 39, Sec. 1, Zhonghua Rd., Zhongzheng Dist., Taipei City). If the documents are complete, the work permit can be issued within one hour on site.
Applicants may also apply by mail or through the online application system. For online submissions, a Foreign Resident Citizen Digital Certificate and card reader are required for identity verification.
To apply, please prepare the following documents:
1. Application form (available at the Workforce Development Agency website https://www.wda.gov.tw/en/)
2. Copy of passport
3. Copy of both sides of the Alien Permanent Resident Certificate (APRC)
4. Original receipt for the NT$100 application fee
