The Taichung Branch of the Central Region National Taxation Bureau, Ministry of Finance, announced that the first batch of tax refunds for 2025 Individual Income Tax Returns filed by foreign nationals who elected to receive their refund via direct bank deposit will be transferred to their designated bank accounts on August 3, 2026.
The Branch explained that foreign national taxpayers may choose to receive their tax refund through direct deposit. When filing their annual income tax return, taxpayers may provide a New Taiwan Dollar (NTD) bank or post office account belonging to themselves, their spouse, or a dependent claimed on the tax return. The National Taxation Bureau will then remit the refund directly to the designated account.
If the refund cannot be credited to the designated account for any reason, the National Taxation Bureau will instead issue a Treasury refund check and notify the taxpayer to collect it. Taxpayers who did not elect direct deposit will also receive their refund in the form of a Treasury check, which can be cashed at a financial institution.
The Branch further noted that there are two refund batches for foreign nationals receiving direct deposit:
Foreign taxpayers who selected direct deposit but do not receive their refund on either August 3, 2026 or September 11, 2026 should contact the National Taxation Bureau responsible for the area corresponding to the residential address shown on their Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) or Entry/Exit Permit at the time of filing.
The Branch encourages foreign taxpayers to make use of the direct deposit refund option when filing their annual individual income tax return. Direct deposit eliminates the need to collect and cash a refund check, saves time, and reduces the risk of a refund check being lost, making it a safer, more convenient, and more efficient method of receiving tax refunds.
